Swine Flu Information

News of the spread of a swine flu strain escalated in late April, not only in Mexico, but in the United States. There have been confirmed cases in Illinois, and the Oswegoland Park District is taking extra precautions to reduce the spread of disease.

Swine influenza is contagious from human to human. It is a virus similar to other forms of type A influenza viruses. Signs and symptoms of the flu include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, chills, headache and fatigue. We ask that anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms stay home in order to prevent the spread of illness.

The best actions that people can take to stay healthy involve simple hygiene measures. These include covering your nose and mouth with a tissue if you cough or sneeze and then throwing the tissue in the trash. Washing your hands with soap and water, especially after coughing and sneezing, is important too. Alcohol hand sanitizers are also effective. It is important to avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, and to review these practices with your children.

Further information regarding the swine flu is available from your medical provider, the Kendall County Health Department, and the Center for Disease Control.

Allergies

Children with life-threatening allergies may be at risk of a serious allergic reaction while participating in a Park District program due to contact with, or ingestion of the allergen. The Oswegoland Park District cannot guarantee an allergen free environment, but with the cooperation of parents we can create a safer environment and be better prepared to handle emergencies. The Park District will make reasonable, feasible, and practical accommodations to allow children with life-threatening allergies to participate in our programs. We recommend that the parent or guardian reads our policy in full and provides the Park District with all information, authorization, and waiver/release forms prior to registering a child with a life-threatening allergy. It is also recommended that a registration for anyone with a life-threatening allergy be completed in person rather than online or by phone.

Download the Policy for Enrolling a Child with Severe Allergies, Authorization to Administer Medication, Authorization for Treatment, and Release and Waiver of Liability.

You may request a packet with the policy and forms included by calling 630.554.1010, or pick up a packet at any Park District office. Questions or concerns regarding the allergy policy may be directed to scampbell@oswegolandpd.org.

Photo/Video Authorization
The Oswegoland Park District photographs programs and special events to be used in program guides, flyers, on the website, etc. Signing the program registration waiver authorizes the Park District to use the images. If there is a photograph that you would like a copy of, contact the Park District, and when possible, we will provide you with a copy.

Insurance
Participants in Oswegoland Park District activities are not covered by any health or accident insurance. Please be sure that your personal or family insurance policy is adequate for your needs.
